The brief

Oxo Tower Wharf and Gabriel's Wharf on London's South Bank are hidden gems housing a collective of 50 innovative, independent shops, galleries and eateries. For two years I worked in-house at Coin Street Community Builders (who own and manage Oxo Tower Wharf and Gabriel's Wharf), producing promotional print, monthly e-newsletters and comprehensive web content promoting the independent retailers and their unique products and services, as well as art exhibitions at gallery@oxo and Bargehouse, and free festivals on the South Bank.

The challenge

I had to provide year-round promotion of the retailers, from eye-catching Christmas leaflets and summer postcards, to inspiring and engaging online content at quieter times of year. The challenge included conveying a particularly wide-ranging retail offer from art to hairdressers, and attracting customers in an area with a lot of vibrant competition in one of the top tourist spots of London. I worked on targeting specific audiences through direct marketing such as hotel guests at the local Park Plaza hotel and local residents who might not know what was on their doorstep, as well as raising the venue's profile through involvement in events such as London Design Festival and the Thames Festival.

The results

The campaigns were greatly successful in bringing custom to the independent retailers at key shopping periods, and helping put Oxo Tower Wharf and Gabriel's Wharf on the art and retail map.
